If you read our February 2008 newsletter, you saw some pictures down the sides.  Here is a little bit of information about each picture.

Ellie Beth, Naomi, and Lina

Ellie Beth invited Naomi and Lina, girls from our church, over to play and make cookies. There are 5 fourth grade girls at the church.  Ellie Beth is planning to invite them all over for a game night.

Ellie Beth, Bonnie and Maja

During the summer, Maja came almost daily to our house to help Ellie Beth and I with Croatian.  We always ended our time by playing Swap, a card game.  In late September, Maja told us her other job was increasing in hours and she just couldn't do both jobs.  We were sad about loosing her as a language helper.  We still get together occasionally - we miss her!

Dan on Medvednica

After Christmas, we had a lot of snow!  We went to Medvednica with the Meekers to go sledding and ended up having a big snowball fight.  The kids loved getting Dan.

Ellie Beth and Lydia hiking on Medvednica

Lydia, Ellie Beth, and I made several hikes up to Spilja Veternica, a cave near our house on Medvednica.  The girls would bring a backpack filled with nature notebooks, magnifying glasses, forceps and other "scinetific" things.  It was very fun.  For a while, we were going once a week but then language school started...

Shay, Debi, and Lydia at Severin

Lydia and I went to the junior high girl's retreat at Severin in November.  It started snowing as we drove up and continued to snow all weekend.  It was beautiful.  All the girls had a good time playing outside, as well as discussing what the Bible says about self image and relationships.

Dan's Croaticum Class

Dan took the evening class at Croaticum the fall semester.  His teacher was Antonia, the women in the picture.  His classmates were from all over the world.

Christmas with Dubravka and Stjepan

We spent Christmas afternoon with our wonderful landlords, Dubravka and Stjepan.  They have a very friendly and beautiful dog, Don, who loves to be petted.

Viona, Mio, Bonnie and Brenda

I took the morning class at Croaticum.  We went on several field trips.  This picture is from our day trip to Varaždin and Tragošćan.  Viona, Mio, Brenda and I were standing outside a castle.

Sledding on Medvednica

Another picture from our sledding excursion after Christmas.  The girls enjoyed the wooden sleds!

In the morning and evening at English Bible Sports Camp, the campers read verses from the Bible.  Some of the campers had never read from a Bible before and there were some interesting discussions.

All the campers enjoyed the new climbing wall, located on the back of the DPB House.  Although I am not a rock climber, I took a little training so that I could spot the climbers on the wall.  This is one of the girls from my room.  We are hoping that this summer there will be a roof over that area, as it got incredibly hot on the wall and the rubber tiles underneath, during the summer.

To the right of the DPB house is a big open field where archery is done.  On the last full day of EBS camp we had a small tournement to see how the campers had improved.

What's camp without silly songs?!  These great girls were also in my room and joined in all the singing and activities.

After Christmas, we helped deliver Operation Christmas Child boxes, a children's Bible, and a bag of clothes and stuffed animals to each family in a Roma (Gypsy) village in Croatia.  We even attempted to sing Silent Night in their native language - but the prayer was said in Croatian or English, depending on who did the praying!

One of the bikers from MK (missionary kid) camp.  There is a trail behind the DPB House where the bikes are ridden.  Dan and Simon, one of the counselors for the younger MK camp, rode their bikes from camp to Zagreb.  It took 5 1/2 hours along some interesting (small with no shoulder) roads.

Janessa, Larry, and Christian led us in some wonderful worship at MK camp.  Maybe someday, this will be Lydia - but we are still trying to find a violin teacher for her.

This fall, a Christian Rock Climbing Club, was started in Zagreb.  The origianl intent was for older teens and twenty somethings to hang out together, have a small devotional, pray for one another, and improve their rock climbing skills; but several fathers and sons were interested, so the club changed slightly to include them also.  This is a picture of a father-son team from our church.  Lydia is a member of this club, also.

Dan helped lead the canoe instructor's training last spring.  The water was cold; the group small; but it was an excellent time and everyone passed.  Canoeing is one of the favorite camp activities - especially when the weather is hot!
