Why Camping?

2005 BWCA Trip
Camping Journal, September 2002.  The night was clear and cold.  Loons softly called to one another from across the darkness of the lake.  Dan and I huddled into our coats quietly talking until we looked up.  In the utter blackness of the night sky, the stars, millions of them, twinkled like diamonds covering the heavens with their brilliance.  We went into the tent, woke up Lydia and Ellie Beth, bundled them up and carried them out to a rock that jutted into the lake.  We found the Big Dipper and the Milky Way Galaxy.  God’s glory and majesty, His power and peace filled our hearts.

Our desire is to join God in His work in Croatia.  He has given us a love for the outdoors and His creation and a heart for children, families, and youth.  We want to proclaim the Gospel and make disciples so that the Kingdom of God advances in Croatia.  Camping ministry plays an important part in reaching people for the Gospel, serving the church and advancing God’s Kingdom.  It is an ideal way to reach this post-modern generation with the Gospel message.  “Extreme” experiences, relationships in community, mentorship and leadership opportunities, while focusing on God, His Word and His Creation.  Camping ministry allows the Gospel to be clearly presented, discussed, studied and lived out, 24/7.  In partnership with the local church, God can use it in a mighty way!

Are We There Yet?!

"How much longer 'til we're there?  This is taking forever!"  It has been two years since our appointment with SEND International to the Croatian camping ministry.  We were hoping to be able to fly to Zagreb in January, but it didn’t happen.  Some days are tough; we feel like we are living in limbo and we question why it is taking so long to get to Croatia.  Most days though we have an incredible sense of peace that we are right where God wants us.  Living in the missionary housing in Cambridge has been a blessing.  We have met some wonderful friends, been stretched out of comfort zones, grown in our faith, and strengthened our relationship as a couple and family.  We have shed more of our possessions and realize we really can live with a lot less stuff.  And it has been great but...

We want to be in Croatia!  So last weekend was especially exciting as four different families let us know that they would be supporting us monthly!  WOW!  This, in addition to Bloomington Baptist Church, individuals, and families who partnered with us in late December and January, leaves us at 87% of monthly support.  We are pumped yet overwhelmed at your generosity and sacrificial giving.  What a joy your prayers, support and partnership are to us!
